Our Beginnings

Daniels Chapel of the Roses has been serving Santa Rosa area families for years. We are honored to be a part of the rich history of this community and plan to be a part of it for many years to come.

Wes, Carol, Patsy and Will DanielsThe Santa Rosa area is rich in history, and many families trace their heritage back more than a century. Since 1875, we have been honored with the trust of thousands of families in assisting them in their time of need.

Many funeral homes and service providers originated in a furniture making or general store business. In 1875, M. M. Moke operated a furniture store on lower Fourth Street, advertising "coffins" in the bottom corner of his sign. At that time, funerals were generally held in homes or religious settings.

Around the turn of the century, Mr. Moke brought in a partner, Mr. Stanley, and they built the first building exclusively constructed for taking care of the deceased. The "Undertaking Parlor" was built on the corner of 4th Street and South E Street. They established a reputation for the highest standards of honesty, Integrity and dedication to the families they served. Their success allowed them to expand over the years. Within the growing profession, they were known as pioneers - bringing the first gas-powered hearse to the area, offering more and more services to families and always seeking new ways to make services more meaningful to those they served.

In the early 1900's, Frank Welti purchased the funeral home. In 1927, he hired Wesley W. Daniels. Upon his death, Mr. Welti left the funeral home to his five employees, one of whom was Wesley W. Daniels. It took 20 years to buy out the other four owners, but in 1960, it came solely under the ownership of the Daniels Family. Today, the third and fourth generations of the Daniels Family still follow the tenets and beliefs of the original owners. We are proud to offer the families we serve experience, integrity, personal professional service and high ethical standards to meet their needs upon the death of a loved one.
