Sandra "Sandy" (Sherman) Smith Obituary

Sandra "Sandy" (Sherman) Smith

August 20, 1942 - January 9, 2019
Born in San Rafael, California
Resided in Rohnert Park, California

Sandra “Sandy” Smith (Sherman) passed away in her sleep, peacefully, during the morning of January 9th, 2019 after a long battle with COPD and lung cancer. Sandy was born in San Rafael, California on August 20th, 1942. She grew up in Fairfax, California and attended Sir Francis Drake High. She wed Donald Eugene “Gene” Smith in 1962 and then moved to Sonoma County where she resided the rest of her life and raised two children, Mickey Warren Jude Smith and Cara Smith (Stevens). Sandy was an avid sports fan and was a longtime girls’ softball and soccer coach in Petaluma where she coached a few teams to championships in the 1970’s and 80’s. She was very much known and celebrated for her team-player approach and sportsmanlike conduct on the field. Sandy was also one of the original “Forty-Niner Faithfuls”, attending 49er games at Kezar Stadium back in the day with her parents, Annamarie and Robert Sherman.
Sandy retired from her career in finance at Memorial Hospital many years ago and spent her time as a grandmother to Tyler Stevens of Rohnert Park and as a friend to many wild and wacky old ladies in Rohnert Park. Sandy was known for her sass and spark and undying devotion to the 49ers as well as the Golden State Warriors and the Oakland A’s. She would also like you to know that she’s still hoping for an impeachment of “45”.
Sandy is survived by her daughter Cara Smith Stevens, her grandson Tyler Stevens, and son-in-law, Josh Stevens, all of Rohnert Park, California as well as her sister, Deanne Wesley (John) of Quincy, California and many nieces and nephews in both California and Oklahoma. Sandy was preceded in death by her beloved son, Mickey Warren Jude Smith, who passed away in 2009.
Services will be held at a later date.
