Betty Evelyn Bravin, age 95, passed away on January 4, 2019. Born January 16, 1923 in Escalon, CA, she spent the early part of her life in Winters, California and moved to Sonoma County at the age of ten. She attended Todd Elementary School and was a graduate of Santa Rosa High School. Growing up during the Great Depression taught Betty the value of a dollar and allowed her to appreciate the simple things in life. Family was also very important to her and she was always there for her family. She was kind and compassionate, enjoyed laughter (and ice cream). Amateur radio became a huge part of her life starting in the 1970’s. She started teaching classes primarily for women as the field was mostly male dominated. Her HAM call sign was AG6C. She taught classes and volunteered during events and disasters. Betty’s family remembers her love of the SF Giants and how much she enjoyed attending her great grandsons’ baseball games. They appreciated her talents as the family seamstress, always ready to repair or do alterations etc., all the way down to the youngest great granddaughter. They also loved hearing her tell stories of her childhood.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Hoppy Bravin and son, Skip Bravin. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Martignoli, grandchildren; Ronald Martignoli, Jr. (Kelley), Larry Martignoli, Laurie Lynch (Craig), and Amy Bravin, great-grandchildren; Gino, Tony and Madison Martignoli, Wyatt Lynch, Austin and Chad Gradek, Mason McClintock, Erika Hatler and Stevi Howdyshell. She also leaves behind fourteen nieces and nephews all of whom considered her their favorite aunt.
Private family services were held on January 10, 2019 at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Santa Rosa. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Bruce Tucker and all of Betty’s caregivers over the past couple of months. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Hospice, 439 College Avenue, Santa Rosa, CA 95401 or to a charity of your choice.
